General donations for SoST (Sadqah)
This is a non-zakatable/charitable donation, also considered Sadqah/charity.
- To support the regular work of the order we encourage our students to donate generously.
- These donations will be used to help support the work of the charity locally & globally, for community outreach, to support the existing students, to maintain the assets of the charity, to manage publications and different activities such as educational events etc. supported by the charity.
Donations for the centre in London
This is a non-zakatable/charitable donation, also considered Sadqah/charity.
- Although SoST is free to join, with no requirement of fixed or joining fees. However, the London center’s daily expenses and other recurring operating costs are covered by voluntary donations. Therefore, students based in the UK are welcome to donate a regular amount at their convenience or set-up a monthly direct debit.
- This donation will help SoST to continue the teaching for the students free of charge.
Fundraising for Palestine
This donation can be both zakatable and non-zakatable/charitable donation.
- To support Palestine due to the ongoing crisis; SoST has been regularly raising funds primarily through events held at the centre in London. More information on events can be found on the events page.
- In 2024, we raised circa GBP 3000. This was donated to different charities to provide medical aid, water, food, etc. in Gaza.
- A detailed yearly report of fundraising and allocation will be shared every year.
The Retreat Scholarship Fund
This is a non-zakatable/charitable donation, also considered Sadqah/charity.
- This fund is designed to provide financial assistance for dedicated students who would otherwise be unable to attend retreats, both internationally and locally.
- Donations will go towards covering retreat registration fees which includes lodging and meals. However, travel costs will not be covered by the scholarship fund at this time. Once sufficient funds have been raised, we will open the scholarship application process.
- Awardees will be selected according to clear criteria and a process established by the Trustees to ensure fairness and integrity.

Zakat (Almsgiving)
Zakat is an obligatory third pillar of Islam. It requires Muslims to donate a portion of their wealth to those in need.
- To facilitate the zakat payments, SoST selects a few charitable projects every year to collectively contribute to impactful and empowering causes Insha’Allah. Every Ramadan these projects are shared with students.
- Zakat is calculated at 2.5% of a one’s wealth. This wealth includes savings, gold, silver, and other assets. The calculation is made after deducting debts and expenses that has been in one’s possession for a full lunar year.
